Why Onion Mail

The ProtonMail & Tuta alternative
built for real anonymity.

Most "private" email providers still know who you are. Onion Mail is designed so that we genuinely can't — no phone, no IP, no data, ever.

🔑

Automatic PGP Encryption

Every account gets a PGP key pair automatically. Emails are encrypted before they touch our storage — we have no technical ability to read your messages.

🧅

Native Tor .onion Access

Access your mailbox directly through our .onion address without revealing your IP to anyone — not even us. Clearnet access available too for everyday convenience.

👻

Zero Personal Data

No phone number. No recovery email. No ID document. We don't want to know who you are. Sign up in seconds with just a username and password.

📬

Send & Receive Anywhere

Full SMTP/IMAP compatibility. Receive from any address — Gmail, Outlook, other .onion services. Premium plans unlock outbound sending to any address on the internet.

🪙

Anonymous Payments

Upgrade without leaving a trace. Pay with Monero (XMR) for complete anonymity, or use Bitcoin, Ethereum, or a credit card if you prefer convenience.

🏷️

Custom Aliases & Domains

Create multiple email aliases across our managed domains. Separate identities, compartmentalize your inbox, and control who can reach you.

🔐

Tox Recovery — No Phone Needed

Lost your password? Premium accounts recover access via Tox P2P — a decentralized protocol that requires zero phone number, zero email, zero personal data. Unique in the industry.

FAQ

Common questions.

Does Onion Mail require a phone number or email to sign up?
No. Registration requires only a username and password. We do not ask for a phone number, secondary email address, date of birth, or any other identifying information.
How is Onion Mail different from ProtonMail or Tuta?
Both ProtonMail and Tuta are solid services, but neither offers the full combination that Onion Mail provides. ProtonMail has a .onion address but requires a phone number for many accounts and doesn't accept Monero. Tuta has no .onion access at all and uses a proprietary encryption format instead of standard PGP. Onion Mail gives you native .onion Tor access, automatic standard PGP encryption, anonymous Monero payments, and zero personal data required — all in one service, including on the free plan.
Can I send and receive emails with regular addresses like Gmail or Outlook?
You can receive emails from any address on the free plan. Outbound sending to any domain (Gmail, Outlook, and the full internet) is available on all premium plans. Our mail server — built on open-source infrastructure — is fully interoperable with the standard email ecosystem via SMTP and IMAP.
Can I pay anonymously for a premium plan?
Absolutely. We accept Monero (XMR) as a fully anonymous payment method. We also accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and standard credit cards for users who prefer convenience over payment anonymity.
What happens if I lose my password? How does account recovery work?
All premium plans include Tox Recovery — a decentralized P2P account recovery system that requires no phone number, no secondary email, and no personal data. It's the only anonymous account recovery mechanism available in any email service. Free accounts do not include recovery; we recommend noting your credentials securely.
What is the .onion address for Onion Mail?
You can access Onion Mail directly through the Tor Browser at: pflujznptk5lmuf6xwadfqy6nffykdvahfbljh7liljailjbxrgvhfid.onion — this bypasses clearnet infrastructure entirely for maximum anonymity.
Does Onion Mail log IP addresses?
When you access Onion Mail via our .onion address on Tor, your IP is never visible to us — Tor hides it by design. On clearnet, standard connection data may be processed in transit but is not stored or linked to your account or identity. We operate under a strict no-log policy on user activity.
